Heartburn or GERD can Kill

Heartburn is a common annoyance. The busy lifestyle, quick meals, fatty or spicy foods all contribute to the occasional need of a chewable pain reliever. The acceptance of heartburn as an inconvenient, but natural, part of the daily grind can blind you to the warning that a severe heartburn symptom can bring.

Heartburn as a Disorder

Heartburn can be a symptom as well as a disorder. Simple heartburn or GERD can be controlled and dealt with. However, heartburn can signal the presence of a much more serious problem. If it’s heartburn, you will have a burning sensation in the chest usually after eating. There may be a spread of the burning to the throat, sometimes accompanied by a bad taste, difficulty in swallowing, belching, coughing, hoarseness and/or wheezing.

It can become worse by lying down or bending over or by eating. Relief can come from an antacid. While the more severe heartburn symptoms may be mistaken for a heart attack, simple heartburn is usually not made worse by exercise. If there is any concern that the pain may signal a heart attack, get help quickly.

310XT Garmin Heart Monitor

By Ed J Price

The latest heart rate monitor to be released by Garmin is the Garmin 310XT. The Garmin Company has taken major steps over the years to try to establish themselves as one of the best heart monitor makers in this very competitive industry. In 2009 alone, somewhere early in the third quarter, they are poised to release two new monitors. These are the Garmin FR60 and the Garmin 310. A lot is riding on these two releases. To be at the top in their class, the Garmin Heart Rate Monitor has to provide more than just heart rate reading. There has to be additional features such as a GPS system to attract new users. The following is a non biased review on the 310XT heart rate monitor.

Second to None Global Positioning System

In a first for its kind, the Garmin 310 is a GPS heart monitor that can be used in the water. Almost all other monitors that have a Global Positioning System are not water proof. It is perfect for the triathlete in that it is able to track running and cycling data on top of being water proof. It is the ultimate tool in that the Global Positioning System is second to none. It keeps track of the rate of your heart, distance and pace. These are the basics that you will need when training whether you are an elite athlete or just someone looking to shed a few pounds. The 310 easily fits into any workout routine or regimen and can move from wrist to the handlebars of bikes in a blink of an eye (no pun intended).

More Features

This Garmin heart monitor watch has a very high sensitive Global Positioning System that also comes with a fast satellite reception even when the user is around tall buildings and trees. The Connect system is what gives it that ability. With other monitors, communication and connection is made easier through the ANT+ wireless technology interface. This works to for the foot pod and cadence sensor.

Downside

There are not many problems associated with this heart monitor. The first is that the Garmin 310 GPS heart monitor does not read heart rate in the water even though it is waterproof. This is just a monitor flaw. The second one is size. This Garmin heart rate monitor is quite bulky. However, this is not a design flaw but was done so that it could sit on the handlebars of bikes easily.

All in all, the Garmin 310 is a great all round heart rate monitor that is certainly going to get any heart pumping. If you are going to hit those hills, swim that extra mile or run a bit more, than this GPS heart monitor is right for you.

Ringing In The Ears

By Aidan Ashcroft

Have you ever experienced a strange and unusual sensation of ringing or buzzing in your ears? If so, then you've probably searched for the source without success. Or, you may have been at a rock concert, or at an airport, or another location with loud noises and experienced these sensations there. If you have had this ringing in the ears more than once, without really knowing why, then you probably have what we call tinnitus. This article will outline the causes of this ringing in the ears and how it works.

The Inner Ear

In order to understand why you can hear this ringing sound, you will first need to understand some basic facts about the ear. The ears are complex organs that consist of the inner ear and the outer ear. The ears detect sounds through delicate sensors that are located inside the ears and when a sound wave is detected, the sound wave travels from the outer ear into the inner ear. The cochlea is located inside the inner ear which is a spiral shaped organ filled with liquid and covered with tiny hair. Sound is produced when the sound wave travels inside the cochlea which causes the hair to stand up due to the vibration and finally signals are sent to our brain.

Understanding what causes ringing sounds in the ear

The inner ear is very delicate and the hair strands located on the cochlea are very sensitive. Damage to these hair strands and the inner ear primarily causes these loud ringing sounds. These days loud music is the biggest culprit that can damage the years and earlier on loud construction would cause damage to the inner ear. Hearing loud music or other loud noises for a short time span can cause temporary ringing sounds in the ear but when a person is constantly exposed to a loud sound that is when the situation becomes serious. Constant exposure to loud sounds can cause permanent damage such as hear loss.

Other common reasons that cause a loud ringing sound in the ear include medical conditions such as sinus infections or ear infections. When a person has fever, cold or cough he can also experience ringing sounds in the ear because each of our senses are connected and when one sense is not well, then the others are affected. Prolonged stress can cause the body to act different and prolonged stress can also cause these ringing sounds.

Ringing in the ears, if left untreated, will become serious. If you have experienced these symptoms for a prolonged period of time, and they continue to occur, then you have probably had your cochlea damaged to some degree. If this is the case, talk to a doctor right away. Regardless of if you currently have this condition or not, in case you do at some point in the future this information is good to know so you can be prepared.

The Warring Sides of the Martial Arts!

By Al Case

The universe is a dichotomy, when you come right down to brass tacks. The concept of dichotomy is that everything has two side. Down and up, left and right, and so on into the realm of less than concrete ideas.

The crux of war versus peace is readily seen within the Martial Arts. And, in studying the martial arts dichotomies are on every...side. Dichotomies which head right into the soul and heart of the discipline, and even put our very existence up to question.

The newbie signs up for a course of instruction and is, in a very short while, consumed by the dichotomy of freestyle v form. Does he elect to study techniques designed for the battlefield and death and destruction, or does he study the abstract perfectionism of forms?

Underneath this simple question of dichotomy is the question of destruction v control. Does the student practice techniques of destruction, which are quick and easy to learn, but perhaps not in keeping with the philosophy of the human soul, or does he practice techniques of control, which are more difficult to work on the street? The answer will dictate what kind of a human being he will end up being, and which way he goes in life.

Then there is sport v art. Should he practice the martial arts for the abstract of art, and be willing to wait perhaps decades for its benefits, or should he practice the martial arts for athleticism and a strong body, and then risk that body in contest? Again, the answer will dictate the very worth of his life, and his direction as a human being.

Really, we are talking mind v matter. Is the body the container of the spirit, or is man an animal? Should he study in hopes of living a wild and exciting journey, and that is the point of it all, or should he study to illuminate the spirit within, and that is the point of it all?

Really, man is making significant decisions in just considering these simple questions. With no sense of direction, and in a murky fog, he is choosing to go up or down. For what is the worth of the human being, and who is to direct us in this question of wrong and right in the human soul...but ourselves?

Woe. Wrong or right, we choose. We are unique, and right or wrong, it is a choice to be valued.

How Can I Make My Ex Boyfriend Fall In Love With Me Again?

By Sara Summers

So you had a bad breakup, and now you want him back. It's not going to be easy, but here's some tips that can help you. So many people don't succeed in winning their ex back. It's not really our fault. No one ever handed us an instruction book when we first started dating that taught us how to handle a breakup. Much less, how to get a boyfriend back after a breakup. If you really want him back into your life, here are five simple steps:

1. The first thing you should do, is to get rid of all your negative thoughts. You have to stop feeling sorry for yourself. You have to be willing to be strong. Don't let your emotion and especially depression keep you down. You can't achieve a goal, if you can't keep your emotions in check and your mind clear. Nothing is more damaging to your cause than self-pity.

2. Learn to accept the fact that the 'way things were' is over. Nothing you can do will ever change what is past. You can't let your mind keep wandering into memories of 'how it used to be'. Focus on what is going on now. If you realize that the relationship of the past wasn't perfect you're heading in the right direction and laying the foundation for you and your ex boyfriend to get back. Remember you are most likely glossing over all the bad stuff that happened. Remember that the breakup didn't just happen overnight, so don't expect to be able to patch things up in a day either.

3. Don't be obsessive. One of guys' major turnoffs are girls who seem desperate. Especially ex boyfriends. You may want to seek comfort by hearing his voice or seeing his face, but if you really want him back, you must back off for a while. Don't continuously call him, text message him, email him, or go to his place or where he hangs out just to see him. Give him time to realize he may have made a mistake. He may begin to actually miss you. Following him around like a lost puppy will only make you look pathetic, and make things harder for you.

4. Change yourself. Be someone men would desire. New clothes, makeup, hairstyle... whatever suits your fancy. If you've picked up a few pounds, start exercising and eating healthy. When you look good on the outside, you're going to start feeling better about yourself on the inside. By feeling good on the inside you will be confident and happy. When you're confident and happy, you will project this image to others. There's nothing more attractive than the aura of confidence, and even an ex-boyfriend isn't immune to this.

5. Take your time. If you've done the four steps, your ex will try getting back in touch with you by himself. Imagine his surprise when he sees the "new" you from step 4. He will probably be sorry that he broke up with you. Keep your physical contact with him to a minimum, if you do see him. Seeing you looking your best and seeing that you've become confident and happy will make him desire you. If you limit your physical contact with him, this will drive him crazy. Don't rush into things and the future relationship will be stronger.

Tips on Managing Your Child's ADHD

By Peter Clarke

As parents, we want the best for our children. We hope they will have a good childhood and grow up to be healthy, strong and independent individuals. We want them to get a decent job and have a happy family. And, every child will play, become hyper and be distracted from time to time, this is all part of what being a kid is and of growing up. For parents who have children who are overly hyper and become confused or distracted, may find that they have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD.

There are medicines and different therapies that can help with this, but many parents might wonder what else they can do to help their children. Some food may help ADHD and some other food may be good to limit or avoid for children with ADHD. Knowing the foods to eat and those to avoid can help in making children with this disorder, happier and healthier for a long time into the future.

When looking at ADHD in children, there have been a number of studies that have been carried out to investigate the causes of ADHD in children. The findings from these have shown that this could be as a result of an individual's diet and certain deficiencies in particular vitamins and minerals. Some of these do include omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin C, zinc, and iron.

If a child with ADHD fails to get enough Omega 3 fatty acids then they will be at a higher risk of suffering from ADHD, and some children have been known to show other symptoms of a deficiency in this, such as dry skin and hair, thirst, and frequent urination. It has also been found that some children with ADHD, who were given a fish supplement, showed signs of improvement in just a few days.

Also, futher studies have found that any child who has ADHD will have the possibility of developing further allergies to different types of foods and may not ingest vitamins because of this. Additionally, you could find that children can become more hyperactive if they consume food dye. Some studies have identified that certain foods with these types of dye, once removed, showed vast improvements with child who had ADHD.

You will need to keep an eye on what your child eats and help them stay away from food additives and anything children with ADHD could be allergic to. Doing so will help improve their symptoms and make them less hyperactive. You may also find that giving them Vitamin C supplements will help improve the symptoms too. And, consulting a doctor, about other concerns, medicines and for regular routine checkups, is also advisable.

Many people also believe in the importance of the correct type and quantity for children with ADHD, so they can live healthier in life, but also because certain vitamins and minerals could cause ADHD symptoms to become worse. Which is the sole reason you should monitor what your child eats and that they eat a healthy and balanced diet - as well as complete regular exercise. Resulting in a child with ADHD being healthier and happier in the long term.
