Think about what our lives are like today; all the stress, the buzz, the overpowering technology, the crush of people in the cities, the processed food making us sick; it's no wonder there is so much anger out there in the world, and all of us need to maintain some form of anger control just to get through the day. Holding in anger and rage can have a negative effect on you physically, and it is not a good idea emotionally to hold in your feelings, however strong they may be.

One of the biggest problems we are faced with as civilized humans living in an orderly society, is that we are not allowed by societal norms, to act out our feelings and vent our rage whenever the situation presents itself. As a small child, you were probably taught not to cry if you were a boy, not to spit at someone if you were a girl, and Lord help you if you whacked someone over the head when they made you mad. Uh uh uh---not nice. Now don't act up. Well, what happens then. I'll tell you what happens; you stash away that anger and that feeling of wanting to whack someone over the head one time too many, and one day the rage that has built up over the years will just explode without warning over the most trivial of affronts. Stifling anger is not a good thing; and a good method of anger control when used wisely is the answer to maintain positive mental health and a healthy body.

One of the best ways to maintain anger control, is to combine effort in both a mental and physical way to channel that anger or rage into a means of physical workout that will let you expend the pent up energy without hurting yourself or someone else. The physical channeling should be something that will allow the rage and anger to well up from deep inside and flow out of your system, while at the same time letting your mental processes release and relax: for example, some sources of stress and anger require only ripping up paper, or shouting, or burning a photo; while other deep seated problems may take something as violent as swinging a bat and smashing something, breaking dishes, or pounding pillows and screaming. Many times, long bouts of insomnia or physical illnesses can be alleviated or ended all together simply by getting the anger control into gear.

No matter what someone has done to you to make you angry or built your rage up to the boiling point; it is never enough to justify incurring bodily harm or hurting someone else. Doing that is a one way ticket to more hurt and stress, mostly for you, and it is totally unnecessary. A verbal screaming match sometimes does wonders and clears the air as well as allows you to get what it is that's driving you nuts off your chest; but a better way, and more effective way is to take a symbol of the person you are angry with, and direct the rage against that symbol. You don't want to be in the middle of the living room pounding pillows and screaming while the rest of the family or group watches with curious amusement, wondering if you are going off the deep end. No, you need to be in a back room, shut in by yourself, or in your parked car: somewhere where you will not be inhibited by the presence of others and you can let fly to your heart's content. Then you can rant and rave, and scream and shout; get out all the rage and pressure that's built up inside so you can enjoy a little mental peace.

Finally, one of the most cathartic things you can do to help yourself get rid of deep seated anger or fear or rage against someone, is to forgive that person totally for what happened. If someone has wronged you in some way, and you are angry as hell about it; don't let it fester and eat away at you. You end up being the victim and the loser in the situation, so if you can forgive the person totally and completely after you have used your anger control methods and vented; then you come out on top and are a much better and calmer person for it.

The way life is today with all its stressors and fast paced style can be overwhelming for many people and the anger and stress that builds inside a person can be totally detrimental if allowed to go unchecked. Having available and using some form of anger control tailored to the situation that is causing the anger; will help alleviate the stress and rage you are feeling and improve radically the way you approach life and dealing with other people.
